What have I learned from pursuing the blogs of other students participating in Genius Hour?
It was interesting to see what other people are learning about. One student, Gabriel, is learning to play the guitar which is something I've always wanted to do. He has put in a lot of hours which is something I could do more of. It seems like there is always more to do and one hour just isn't enough time to get it all done.
How can I use what I've learned to impact my own Genius Hour/Ted Talk?
I have learned from the others that it is important to get off the computer and get involved with my project. Researching is great but learning by doing is even better. I would like to apply the same idea to my Ted Talk by getting the audience involved by using props and demonstrations. One important part about gold mining is panning, and I would like to teach my audience this simple task.
What progress do I still need to make towards my Genius Hour Project?
I still have lots of research to do on the many different techniques of extracting gold from the ground. I also need to get out in the field and practice my panning. I would love to be able to find some real gold on my endeavors. The bottom line is that I need to spend more time during and outside of class in order to complete my project to its fullest potential.
